Driver Involved in Fatal Train Accident is Arrested

On Thursday, June 9, the driver of a vehicle which was involved in a fatal train accident was taken into custody.

The accident happened at the Sidell Road train crossing back on the early morning May 6, when 28 year old Laura E. Holmes of North Little Rock was driving from a pool hall in Little Rock at around 4.30 a.m. and drove onto the train tracks at the Sidell Road train crossing where the vehicle got stuck on the tracks. Her passenger, 36 year old Marina Prescott of Benton got out of the vehicle and tried to free the vehicle by pushing it. The Union Pacific train came along the track and was hit and killed, while Holmes was ejected and airlifted to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

After a month long investigation, detectives determined that Holmes had negligently caused the death of Prescott by operating the vehicle under the influence of intoxicants. Holmes was arrested and taking to Saline County Sheriff’s Department Detention Facility where she was booked in and released.
